We have a lovely church not far from our home that is well known in these parts for its extraordinary beauty. The building and grounds are just lovely. We were out for a couple of quick errands, and it was a gorgeous day here, so I asked the hubby to stop by the Shrine of the Little Flower to snap a couple pictures.
A recent addition (I'm not sure what year) is a monument of Jesus at the Last Supper. A life-sized statue sits alone at the table with twelve empty seats around him. It's difficult to describe the feeling of sitting across the table from Jesus, even a sculptured one.

This is a beautiful garden complete with waterfull and statue of Mary (not visible from this picture).
There are gardens with benches all around, as well as the story of the crucifixion told on plaques throughout the gardens. You can see the front of the church in the background of this pic.
Once we got home, I changed gears and mixed up an apple cake. While working, I thought about all the wonderful places I am privileged to have so close to home. I will stop by this church again, perhaps when I am alone and can stay longer. It would be a lovely place to sit and pray, think, even make out a list or two.
I serve the cake with vanilla ice cream and a little carmel sauce drizzled over both. Tim was nearby when I took this snap and offered to "take one for the team" and eat it once the picture was taken. Such a good sport, eh?
Look's like Pumpkin is wondering where her cake is :)

lovely church...and the cake looks scrumptious...how very self sacrificing of your hubby ;-)
I love the last scripture you quoted. I noticed that you accidentally referenced the wrong verses. It should be 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18.
We've just started a study of both letters written to the Thessalonians. Their amazing faith is an example for us to follow.
Amy, that's a beautiful church and setting. The photos are really well taken. Your cakes look delish. Be sure pumpkin doesn't get nuts, they can't eat nuts. They also can't eat raisins, grapes, onions, and on an on. How silly of me, I'm sure you know. I worry about little doggies, because I love them. Take care.
Amy, that church is so beautiful. I can remember driving by it when I lived there and would think that exact thing.
The cake looks yummy!
Hope you have a good week.

Beautiful photographs and such a gorgeous church. Thanks for sharing them. I would like to invite you to participate in Crock Pot Wednesday at diningwithdebbie.blogspot.com. Any kind of slow cooker recipe will work. Come check it out.
Hi, Amy. I loved seeing the pictures of the little church. I just love little places like that where you can just sit and take in the beauty....you're lucky to have a place like that close to you. I know there are little spots around here that I need to take better advantage of....I think it's just a matter of stopping long enough to see what's around us, don't you?
You've inspired me to do that more.
And your apple cake...oh boy. I don't think there's anything that says Autumn to me more than apples.Do you think maybe you could e-mail me the recipe? I'd love to have it.....it just looks so good.
Cooler weather is getting here gradually...it's so gradual around here you have to really look for the changes...but they are coming. I'm starting to decorate for fall so maybe that'll hurry it up! lol
Love,
Elaine
The stone church is gorgeous and you are very fortunate to live near such a beautiful and peaceful place.
What I would give for a taste of that delicious looking cake. I could almost taste and smell it from over here. And with a scoop of ice cream, to die for!
I haven't started any personal Christmas sewing yet. There are too many things going on over here so it looks like it may have to wait until December. Have you started your Christmas sewing yet? I bet you're all done, huh? LOL
Take care, Amy!
Aloha!
