Sunday Sweetness

"A sister is a little bit of childhood that can never be lost."
~ Marion C. Garretty

Today my aunt and cousin came over for lunch and to visit with my mom.
On the menu:
Chicken Pot Pie
Cole Slaw
Fruit Salad, and

Carrot Cake w/ Cream Cheese Frosting and Vanilla Ice Cream

No pictures of the other menu items.......I guess I was too busy to snap any. Glen took a picture of my mascot, though.

Auntie Frances is my mom's younger sister, by all of 19 months. They've been the best of friends for 87 years.
Here they are about 70 years ago, standing outside my grandparents house. My mom is on the right.

And here they are today, standing on the same sides. My mom on the right, Auntie Frances on the left.

Both girls suffer from arthritis and various other ailments. I think my mom looks so good after her latest ordeal though, don't you?

I don't have a sister, and I can only imagine how lovely it is to share such a special bond. My cousin Cindy is the only girl, too, so we try to share as sisters would. Somehow I think it's not quite the same. If you are lucky enough to have a sister, give her a big hug for me....and I'll pray that you and her are able to share lunch together when you're 89 : )

Here's to a new week.........make the most of it!

Oh, Amy! That next to the last sentence really left me breathless! What a beautiful thought!

Your Mom and Auntie look so cute, and yes your Mom looks great after her medical ordeal. What beautiful ladies, I must say!

Lunch sounds great and that cake looks not only delicious but beautiful!

Awww, they're just adorable. How lucky that they've had so many years together. You may not have a sister, but you DO have a daughter. I have a lovely DIL, but as you say, I think it's just not the same. I'll hug my sister -- you hug your daughter!!!

Did you consciously recreate this photo or did it just happen? I love that they are holding hands in both pictures. I'm glad to see your mom looking so well. She's amazing.

Hi Amy. Sorry I haven't been around but I've been cutting back a little. I really like those pictures, a before and after. How wonderful and what memories they must have. Your mom looks good too. They both look like they have lived a long and happy life and that's all we all really want. Pumkin looks so big now and so healthy. As for you not having a sister, hey we are all "Sisters of the Bloglandia." In fact I have on my blog a little widget I made that is for that cause. "Sisters of the Bloglandia." Long may they live!!! Have a great week.

Oh, I just love the picture of your Mom with her sister! One of my sister's is in town today to help get her daughter (who's going to Med school here) get settled in her new apartment. I'm going over in a few minutes to help....I'm so excited to see my sister because it's been several months. How nice that your Mom and her sister still have one another at this age...they are truly blessed! Glad your Mom is doing well too.
Gotta run now, but I'm hoping you have a lovely and very blessed week Amy!

Hi Mom!

I had a wonderful time helping you put on the lunch! It was so much fun being able to use all my vintage stuff. And here's a thought... I don't have a sister either and since everyone thinks we look like twins...why not be each other's sister?

XOXO
Emily
